My living heroes by Damian Neuner

Graham Smyth— My first living hero is Kyo Sa Nim Smyth. He has been my teacher for as long as I have been doing martial arts. He is everything I aspire to be as a teacher. He is funny, caring, and always willing to help. I look to him when I need advice, wisdom, or a witty comment. When I teach I try to emulate him. I look to him and try to learn when he teaches me. He has helped me become a better martial artist, a better teacher, and I believe a better person. I can think of no better teacher than him.

Sara Neuner— My sister, Sara, is also one of my living heroes. She is always ready to give advice when I need it. But also willing to listen. Always willing to listen to me complain about our parents. Always ready to help me when I struggle and don’t know what to do. I looked to her as inspiration and as a guide for my own life.

Steve Neuner—  My father, Steve, is always guiding me, taking care of me, working with me. He has tutored me, cooked for me, shown me love, and has been a wonderful father. He looks out for me and tries his best to do what is right. He has worked hard to take care of me. At times it was just my dad and me. But he always did his best to take care of me.

Autumn Mello— No matter what was happening, my mother has always shown me love and kindness. She has taken care of me, picked me up when I have fallen, and has been a great mother. She has struggled at times but was always there for me.

George Neuner— My grandfather came to the United States when he was six years old. His family spoke very little English and faced multiple hardships. As he grew up, however, he studied in school to secure a better life. As he became an adult and graduated from college, he started working on the Apollo space project. My grandfather helped put a man on the moon despite where he came from and what he had to do.
