My weekly push for 2nd Dan by CGN Eric Sams

3820638199?profile=originalGreetings everyone, its been a couple of weeks since I wrote here. Been a little busy with work and life and such.

I wanted to say that I have enjoyed training a lot lately. I am working hard on moving forward with my training, and still feel very motivated. Thank you so much to SBN Strongheart for the things you shared with me tonight, that was very helpful. I will put that to good use.

I enjoyed tonight's class. I have been having a great deal of fun at class the last couple of months. I can hardly wait for what I will learn next.

My Weekly Push for 2nd Dan- Eric Sams

This week was a goocollectors_splits.jpg?width=493d one for me.  I feel that I am making progress toward being a teacher of martial arts and a leader. I still have a ways to go, but I am confident that I am on the path.

My fitness is still not where I would like. It is not horrible, but its in need of improvement, as well as my flexibility. I still long to do the splits, but not sure I will get there.  But I will keep working at it. Upper body strength needs work. More pushups!! I foresee lots of pushups in class in the future. Good times for everyone. motivation remains very high. See you in class!

olympics.jpg?width=416It's the day after the sparring class, I had so much fun and learned tons. I have quite a bruise on my right foot by my big toe. It seems to be a little better than yesterday. The foot is a little sore so I will be taking it easy Monday. I hope to come to class Tuesday. It has been hard to get to class sometimes with work being unpredictable, I am still motivated to move forward. I am not sure if I can make the time line set for December.  Sometimes I can only make one class a week. We will see.

Wow last week was an eye opener. I have started using Goji Berry juice to help with my overall health and well being. It seems to be working, I am pretty excited about that. I had so much fun in class last week. Thank you KSN Olbando for coming and working out. I hope to see you more.

I rode my mountain bike this week end out at Tiger Mtn. to have fun and gauge where my fitness is for the season. I did very well, better than expected really. That makes me really motivated for the year ahead. Now all I have to do is stretch more often and I will be in good shape.

I look forward to seeing everyone in class this week.

Hello again, I got a little dinged up last week. I managed to injure my right shoulder and left knee. How I have no idea. They both hurt like crazy.  They are both feeling much better as I write this so I don't think it is anything bad. The swelling in my knee is almost all gone and the pain in my shoulder is almost gone as well. I haven't taken Advil since Monday so I am clearly on the mend. I am puzzled how I got hurt in the first place. I didn't do anything unusual, I just can't figure it out. Oh well, at least I am getting better. My motivation is as high as ever.   See you in class next week.

Hello again. This was a tough week for me, I worked late three days and I lost my aunt Sebing yesterday. I was only able to make one class this week, but what a class! We got worked! I love it! When I can barely stand at the end of a class I know it has been a good one. I would like more of those please.

To everyone, keep working hard and you will get where you what to go.

I am as motivated as ever. See you in class.

Shinai%20Bamboo%20Sword.jpg?width=308I am  little late posting this one, sorry about that. Things are a little busy at work this last week. I had a good week of training, the workshop we had Wednesday was so much fun. I know I have a lot to learn with weapons, but I am hungry for knowledge.

My mother in-law earned her black belt in Hap Ki Do Saturday. Go mom! I find that so inspirational.

That means that I need to keep focused on my goal of 2nd Dan. I will make it, I know I will.

 See you in class.

I am moving forward with my training and all is well. I had so much fun with the self defense workshop, I know we all had fun. Hopefully we will get some more new students from it. I have really been enjoying class lately and I can hardly wait to go back.  My motivation is still very high.

As long as I stay healthy and my job doesn't interfere to much I hope to stay on schedule. I spent a little extra time with a student last night and had a blast. Teaching really has got a hold on me and I am going to embrace it with both hands. See you all in class.

Black%20Belt%202nd%20Deg.jpg?width=288I had so much fun last night!

I am very motivated to push forward. I am working at a new job so making class on time will be catch as catch can. I am hoping that I will be able to make Tuesday and Thursday like usual.

I am  little tired today but it feels great. I wish I had more time to give to the other students to help them along, I feel it is important that I give as much as I can.

This journey is starting to feel like giving is more important than receiving. And I like how that feels.

If any students want some one on one help with something I would be more than happy to help. See you in class.

I am back this week, I started a new job and I haven't had the time to blog about my training. I am finally healthy, no more sinus infection. YaHoo!  Now I get to go at it like I want to. Full steam ahead!

I am happy to keep going. I would like to say I am very proud of my wife Gosu Jackson for getting her brown stripe. She is a great inspiration.

I have been battling a sinus infection for the last two weeks and it has been frustrating.  I am on the mend now and hope to get back at training next week. I went last night and felt ok, but had very little endurance.  By next week I hope that to be a non issue. I know I have some catching up to do, but I will make up ground.

This was a good week, my upper body strength is coming back. I did three days this week. I really like Koryo, I have been looking on youtube to study what it looks like. It has helped. There are so many things that I still need to learn. I can't wait for CGN Thorton Jack. A big person to study with. I know he will push me the way I need.

I think that is why so many of us do martial arts, it allows us to push ourselves in ways that we wouldn't do otherwise. Pushing limits is healthy for your body and mind.

I am excited for the new year.

Happy New Year everyone. I made class on Tuesday and Wednsday this week and I had a blast. I am rebuilding upper body strength that I lost when I had the flu. This the time of year when I am the weakest. The holidays are when I lose fitness. Has been this way for a long time, since I fought fire. After the new year the body will bounce back nicely. Looking forward to the new year.

Merry Christmas! The holidays are here and I made class this week. Once the holiday season is over training resumes in earnest. I lost a fair amount of muscle tone when I was sick. It will take a little time to put it back on. I can't wait for the new year.

This last week was taken up with illness in our home, my wife was ill and I spent time taking care of her. Happy to report that she is doing much better. Not so happy I seem to have caught what she had.

On Thursday however I was able to be at Jan's test for her black belt, I was so proud of her. A good time to be sure.

As soon as I feel better I will be back at it. I hope to be back this Tuesday.

Hello, I went to class last night and got to spend a good amount of time with one of my favorite instructors. Thank you KSN.
I am starting to see just how far I have to go to truly be ready for my test. There are times that I feel like a white belt. Trying to wrap my head around what I need to make my body do. Much work to do, much work.
I am a little sore, my right glute and my neck are sore. I think I strained it when we did the frog hops. I like them but I may have tried a little to hard without enough warm up. One more thing I need to pay attention to. Details details. I am as motivated as ever.

Hi, my name is Eric Sams, I am a 1st degree black belt at Mercer Island Martial Arts. I am writing a blog once a week for the next thirteen months until I test for my 2nd degree black belt. The reason behind me writing these blogs is to chronicle my journey to the next step in my training. I will post once a week at least. These will not be books, they may only be a few sentences or a few paragraphs, but they will be what I am going through that week.
I am a little sore from class last night, I did Demo, basic and Black belt class. So I am a bit sore and stiff.
That's all for now.
