As I approach belt black and go beyond my hope for training goes past just physical training but to focus on becoming a better teacher and instructor. While I hope to always improve my technique and form, I also wish to improve my abilities to teach. I strive to better help students on their way to black belt. To become a better listener and a better communicator. This way I can better understand how my fellow students' struggles and help them rise. I wish to be the type of black belt that

Graham Smyth— My first living hero is Kyo Sa Nim Smyth. He has been my teacher for as long as I have been doing martial arts. He is everything I aspire to be as a teacher. He is funny, caring, and always willing to help. I look to him when I need advice, wisdom, or a witty comment. When I teach I try to emulate him. I look to him and try to learn when he teaches me. He has helped me become a better martial artist, a better teacher, and I believe a better person. I can think of no better teacher

As a stay at home parent, I have realized that volunteering is where I like to be. Over the years this has been in our community at West Mercer elementary PTA and through Girl Scouts. Over 2021-2022 I was West Mercer Elementary’s PTA President. Although there weren’t a lot of events that year due to the pandemic, our Board of Directors continued to meet monthly to discuss different activities. Updating the PTA website has been something I’ve also worked on to make it more user friendly and acces
My Five Living Heros
By Michele Agosti
Bryan Stevenson - Author of the book Just Mercy and lawyer at Equal Justice Initiative which works on getting people off of death row. Bryan is one of my heros because he has worked tirelessly to bring attention to the criminal justice system's bias against poor and minorities. He has fought and had sentences and convictions repealed. He has aided in persuading the the Supreme Court to make decisions prohibiting sentencing children under 18 to death or life i
Sofia Delgado is a 16 year old American Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) competitor on the national scene. She is an expert in her chosen sport and dedicated to ceaseless improvement. She is a hero of mine because at such a young age she has put so much time and effort into her passion. Her heroism does not come from large acts in the news or media, but from the enormous waves she is making in the women’s BJJ community and women’s sports in general. Each and every woman that enters their chosen field a
