Dear Master Strongheart, Master Wells and the family/community of Mercer Island Martial Arts:
Since the beginning of my journey at MIMA in 2009 I have learned many things about myself and the art of Tae Kwon Do. At first, I looked at the Dojang as a place to get my weekly exercise and see new friends; but, as time has moved forward, I now see the Dojang as a sacred place for my self-cultivation to be a better person, friend, co-worker, community member and family member of MIMA and also to practice my forms for physical as well as mental exercise. I will be receiving my green belt at MIMA on Thursday June 30th; I would like to contribute more to my family at MIMA by asking if I may practice the leadership role and place a black belt on the commitment wall as a future goal I want to attain within this beautiful circle of human beings.
I want to make this commitment towards a black belt because the training and teaching I have received at MIMA have shown me that with time and persistence that the process of gaining the knowledge needed to be a black belt begins with MYSELF. If I am seen as ready- and even if I am not- to present my future black belt to the wall with my family at MIMA then I promise to continue my mental training of loyalty, obedience, love, cooperation, faith, respect, honesty, compassion, mercy, persistence throughout my daily existence.
Thank you for the enlightenment and opportunity to grow as a human being. Much love and respect.
Dolores Martinez
