Our current theme for our classes is focused on Compassion -- The practice of Compassion. Compassion in our actions, our thoughts, our communication, towards ourselves, each other, and the community. Compassion and its relatives of respect, kindness, and empathy make a huge impact in all areas of our lives.
In the field of positive psychology, practicing compassion for oneself and others has found that it leads to increased happiness, decreased depression, better social interactions, and improved relationships. If you are interested in learning more here is a great link https://positivepsychology.com/why-is-compassion-important/.
The worksheet is posted here for you all to fill out. Once it is filled out kids will get their blue tip on their belt. It is required for children to have the tip in order to test on the next belt test. If your child is a pre-k dragon and cannot write they can make a drawing, or a video, of their ideas about compassion, and the actions they are taking.
Adults and teens (compassion is certainly not just for kids after all). We all benefit from a personally more compassionate community, relationships, and perhaps most importantly, self-compassion. What about our thoughts, self-talk, or behaviors towards ourself, or our performance, could they be more compassionate?
Some of our students have said that doing these projects as a family, or a team, makes it more fun. I know that others have said having the conversation itself can be impactful even on its own. Certainly anyone is welcome to participate, whether they are current students or not.
