1. Richard Phillips- Richard Phillips served as the captain of the container ship Maersk Alabama. During a relief mission en route to Mombasa, Kenya, the ship was hijacked by Somali pirates. Although, the pirates were very hostile and short tempered, Phillips remained remarkably calm, and was careful not to antagonize them. You can see this event in the film, Captain Phillips.

After connecting with the volunteer coordinator with the local MS Walk I am not only registered to walk but to help with the registration of the event.  I continue to balance my fund raising with not only volunteering with the event, but spending time with my brother  who continues his fight against MS. It seems that every week brings  a new challenge, with this week the fight being lung problems again, supporting my sister in law.

This post is as a congratulations to two of my living heroes for their recent recognitions of their breakthrough work in the detection of blood cancers.   Denise Wells M.D. and Mike Loken PhD --  your work has changed medicine, and your lives have changed mine.   Bravo!
