A True Honor! Hometown Hero Selection

Dear MeLisa,

Hello and Congratulations!

You have been selected to represent your community as a “Hometown Hero” in the 2011 Summer Celebration Parade on July 9th, 2011. Breathing can transform your life.

If you feel stressed out and overwhelmed, breathe. It will calm you and release the tensions.

If you are worried about something coming up, or caught up in something that already happened, breathe. It will bring you back to the present.

If you are discouraged and have forgotten your purpose in life, breathe. It will re

We are a part of a remarkable association of martial arts teachers, really forward thinking and action-oriented instructors, who come together almost every day to move worthwhile projects forward. The group is called The One Hundred, it’s headed by a 6th degree black be

COURTESY

Taekwondo students should practice courtesy at all times in order to promote the spirit of mutual understanding, promote politeness to one another, avoid feeling superior, and encourage a sense of justice.

Distinction of Roles: the ways we speak or act with respect towards our seniors, elders, or teachers and with

We are members of a group of amazing martial artists called The One Hundred. We are seeking to redefine the role of the Master Teacher in today’s world. We are asking each other, as martial arts teachers to push ourselves in ways that serve as examples of our collective potential.

We believe our “business” is the business of being extraordinary human beings; of using our training for something more than fighting; of bringing authentic mastery to our schools by practicing the martial arts in ways

An Ode to Bullies.

It is easy to be angry, and upset about the behavior of bullies. After all we know that their behavior has terrible outcomes for their victims. But empathy, and compassion for bullies, ought to be part of our approach to the problem of bullying.

Kids do not become bullies without system involvement. Remember without the bystanders, and the silent consent given by folks within their system, the bully would not have the ability to bully at all. In fact, the research is clear that the negative eff

Maya Angelou is a person who has overcome great obstacles, kept a vision for her life, and for what she can give and achieve. She has inspired me to be a better teacher, as she stands as one of the truly great ones.

She practices her art, and continues to produce her creative works even as she has moved into her 8th decade of life.

She teaches compassion, tolerance, and respect; she lives
