As our beautiful summer does its best to hold off fall it is easy to forget that the season began with a terrible bang (more accurately, several bangs) with the shootings at Café Racer Espresso in the U District. While I didn’t know any of the victims, I had seen Joe Albanese & Drew Keriakedes perform, we had mutual friends and that was close enough to effect me.

As the details of events began to emerge in the following days I was struck by the actions of one of the shooting’s survivor’s Mr.

logo-all.pngJust completed this training with the Stewards of Children.  It is an adult focused child sexual abuse prevention program, empirically proven effective in prevention.   It has been shown to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change participants child-protective behaviors.

I recommend it for all who work with children, live in a community with children, have children, or have been children.  lol.

OK, seriously though, good info, and helpful.   We, (the staff of MIMA) do sexual abuse prev

50421_124319971030065_1237244330_n.jpgAs some of you know, and some of you are participating, or just signed in supporting the team:  I have launched into a major process:  The Incredible Shrinking Master Project.

The project is about facilitating the realization of my dreams and hopes for health, and fitness as well as to inspire others to dream bigger, and to believe in their ability to become their own Shrinking Masters. To have fun, learn, change, laugh, push myself to the limits, and to channel my doggedly persistent, slightly

Tanner Foust

3820642179?profile=originalTanner Foust is a stunt car driver, Professional Drift Car Driver, Professional Rally Car Driver. I admire him as a Rally driver; he was the gold medalist of global RallyCross of the X Games LA in 2012 with his new Rockstar Ford Fiesta (Shown at the bottom). He is a part time TV show host.

I chose him as a living hero because I love Rally and cars. And I like him because he is world champion, and he has more than one job.

When I’m an adult, I would love to be exactly like him because I

Bill Gates

3820642330?profile=originalBill Gates is one of the wealthiest people in the world. He was the CEO of Microsoft, but he stopped to help create the Bill & Melinda Foundation for the poor children in particular with all the money he earned. He helps the poor for vaccines and education in most countries for example India and most of Africa. I chose Bill for living hero because he very generous.

JackieChan.jpg?width=159Jackie Chan

To me Jackie is a noble hero, but I prefer Bruce Lee. But since he is no longer alive, and I need to write on a living hero, I had no either choice than Jackie Chan.

Jackie Chan kind of looks like a ninja monkey when he does all his fancy kicks & spins, unlike Bruce that  goes strong and stiff on his enemies but also has a handful of speed. They both have completely different styles and technique.

Jackie is not only an awesome martial artist, but he is also a very generous person he

Five for Friday

100608_five_things_think_kranz_lg.jpgThis week lets talk about next week.   What five things are you going to get done.   The five things you will get done, regardless of all those things that come up, the phone ringing, the seemingly urgent, yet unimportant.

five things.

I'll get us started in the notes below.   Have a happy Friday, and a fantastic weekend!

Okay, okay, hear me out, before giving me any weird looks (I know giving your child ice cream for dinner, probably isn't the best idea)! I was going through my daily news sources and while I was watching one of them on YouTube last night, I came across this story. So, please take a moment to watch this, it's only 2.5 minutes, it was so touching! [Insert 2.5 minute pause here] I almost broke down in tears when I finished watching this, so I just wanted to say, everyone, enjoy your lives and the p

Community Service - Volunteer Project

Volunteering at a pre-school – Volunteer project                                                         6/12/2012-6/14/2012

To complete my volunteer hours 3820642013?profile=originalfor my black belt, I needed 6 more hours. So, I asked my sister’s school if I could help out for class. I was able to do this because I was out of school the week before. I spent three hours every morning for two days at the Cougar Mountain Montessori School.

What is funny is that I went to the same school when I was little, and the teachers I

Lionel Messi

3820642110?profile=originalLionel is the best soccer player on earth. I think he is a hero because he is talented and incredibly good at soccer, which is one of my favorite sports. He was an ordinary boy from Argentina, with a lot of health issues (growth hormone deficiency). The treatment for his illness was very expensive.

Then he got recognized by FC Barcelona in Spain because of his excellent skills and technique. He moved to Spain, and he got treated with the club paying for all his medical expenses. When

Emergency Preparedness

72-Hour_Emergency_Kit.jpgI've been a volunteer on the Mercer Island Emergency Preparedness Team for two years now and I get asked a lot about how to be prepared in case of an emergency.  I would like to share with you how to be safe,  get supplies and have a plan.  I mean think about it for a second. Where do you spend most of your time? At home, at the office and in your car. Who are you responsible for? Yourself, your kids and your animals. So, where do you go from here? The best way to be safe during and emergency is

Barack Obama

I like President Obama because when he did a speech he was always talking about safety and equal rights and that is something I know that will help all over the world. And I love that. He is a father of two kids like any ordinary father. But he has an extraordinary job and life. He comes from a different family background than any other president. He is proof that anybody can become president of the United States if they want to. A couple months ago Obama was visiting Seattle so he

Bread Sale- Leadership Project

3820641799?profile=original

At my school every year the fifth grade goes to France for a week or two. So we have to fundraise some money for the trip by selling pastries every friday from a french baker in Seattle (Le Panier) at the entrance of my school.

This year we have raised over $10,950 to help lower the cost so that every student can participate. I sold bread three times for my volunteer hours.

I saw what Cameron did with the origami and I thought," I did exactly the same thing last year"! Last year at Oshkosh (the cloth3820641873?profile=originaling store) they had a a sort of fundraiser by making paper cranes. Every paper crane gave one clothing item from Oshkosh to a child in Japan after the Tsunami. So I proposed my class if they wanted to take part in this fundraiser, they accepted (we had just learned how to make paper cranes in art class). So we where making paper cranes for a whole month. We where always

3820641671?profile=originalIn an article written by Education Week discusses the positive attributes of service learning; “Service learning can teach students and teachers a great deal. Although the final product is the culminating event that everyone works hard to achieve, service learning is also about the process from beginning to end. The whole experience can be a great learning experience, especially when students are a part of the decision making.” (DeWitt, 2012)

The article continues with discussing the viewpoints
