The project is about facilitating the realization of my dreams and hopes for health, and fitness as well as to inspire others to dream bigger, and to believe in their ability to become their own Shrinking Masters. To have fun, learn, change, laugh, push myself to the limits, and to channel my doggedly persistent, slightly

Some Tips for Eating

3820641588?profile=original 1. Eat MINDFULLY. Eating without paying attention causes you to eat the wrong things and/or too much food. Doing either (or both) could, as they say, “take the shine off your shoes.” Heart disease, diabetes, and all sorts of ailments await the person who doesn’t practice mindful eating. Look to the video, below, for for some mindful eating basics (it’s Harvard Professor, Dr. Lilian Cheung, co-author of Savor, Mindful Eating, Mindful Life): The video is here:

My best friend of 8 years, and someone I consider my sister, even though we’re not related at all. You have always listened when I needed to talk to someone. You are one of the kindest, sweetest, caring and most understanding person I have ever met. Even though you and your husband both live in Arizona, you have always been a phone call, e-mail, and/or instant message away. We have literally talked every day since the day we met. We talk about some of the most random things (cheese comes to mind

intelligent-curriculum-logo.jpg?width=350We are involved in a rather revolutionary project involving a change in the what, when, why, and how of teaching people of all ages about self-defense. The project has been launched with my martial arts teacher’s association, The One Hundred (The 100), and involves a concept coined Intelligent Curriculum.

The idea of an "Intelligent Curriculum" is a process where web-technology is applied to teaching people about the depth and scope of self-defense as it applies to today’s world. For example, th

healthy_body.jpg?width=307One list cannot automatically tell you how to turn negative body thoughts into positive body image, but it can help you think about new ways of looking more healthfully and happily at yourself and your body. The more you do that, the more likely you are to feel good about who you are and the body you naturally have.

1. Appreciate all that your body can do. Every day your body carries you closer to your dreams. Celebrate all of the amazing things your body does for you --running, dancing, breathi

Think about the difference between saying: "yeah, i  plan a little golf, and go on the treadmill a few times a week"  and ,   "Yeah, i do some kicking and boxing drills, some pad work and self defense training, we warm down with a little yoga and resistance core work" .  I mean come on, it is just cool.

2.  Business Sharpness

If there is one thing you must do to thrive in martial arts, in the ring as it were, is to develop the ability to think clearly, creatively, and stay focu

The amazing wonders of water

3820636471?profile=originalI had always been told that one of the best ways to stay healthy and maintain a healthy weight was to drink plenty of water.   So I was curious what the research said on how much water was good for you, and why it promotes a healthy weight.

A 2010 study done by Brenda Davy, PhD where she took 48 adults all on a low calorie diet and divided them into two groups one drank two glasses of water before a meal and one didn't.  The participants who drank 2 glasses of water prior to their meal lost a

A few "Things"

In the martial arts, to make true and worthwhile progress, you would do well to have a few "things."

One of those things is patience. Patience means you look at the long-term benefits of steady, consistent training; not too hard and not to easy, but training that’s varied, interesting, and --eventually --both meditative and challenging.

Another thing is the big picture view. Your martial arts practice should not be limited to --or even predominately on --the mat. The awareness, the calmness, t

Treat your body better!

Last week I was watching a lot of 'Grey's Anatomy' at home.  If you have some how missed out on this show, it's a hospital drama that is arguably the most depressing show in television.  But it's an awesome show!

Much of what I watched involved people dying (as it usually does) but one particular case involved a man losing half of his leg.  Now adays with the development of prothetics, it's probable that this man will be able to continue life as normal...save for 3820635868?profile=originalthe few months of physical thera

Taco Bell‘s new Beefy Crunch Burrito probably isn’t the healthiest thing, but it’s pretty straightforward, right? Just a tortilla stuffed with ground beef, rice, nacho cheese, sour cream and a sprinkling of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos for that extra bit of pizzazz.

Think again. A closer look reveals that the fast-food nightmare contains no fewer than 150 ingredients. Just for fun, I thought I’d list them here for you here. Oh, and as an homage to the first chapt

Environmental Self Defense

I believe that, as we are part of the ecosystem, it's protection is, in fact, self protection. To that end, I believe that what we consume, discard, and how we interact with our environment has as much to do with "Self-Defense" as any other defensive technique, or strategy.

Lets talk about it on the group I just made called Environmental Self Defense.

Cancer is perhaps the most frightening of all diseases we face. And the thing is, it's very often entirely preventable. If we simply made some different decisions, earlier, many cancers would never happen.

That sounds like an audacious statement. Cancer after all, comes "out of the blue" -- we report that it happ
