Just the other day I ran into someone at one of our locally owned restaurants who was asking me about my business, Mercer Island Marital Arts. I was telling her all about what we do, and I happened to mention that I frequent this particular restaurant largely because it is locally owned and as a Mercer Island business owner myself I felt that it was important to support our community. The woman, to my surprise, “gaffawed” at me. So I asked her what she did. It turns out she also has a bus

When in a bad position, when under pressure, instead of struggling and wasting energy, embrace your opponent and relax. Your time will come.
My friend and I walk down a beaten dirt path with my mom following behind. We drop our trees off in the right section. My friend and I don't need to talk much to know what we were thinking, tired sweaty and a tad hungry. An hour later everyone gathers in a circle to learn how to plant a tree from the woman who set this all up. It was hard work as me and my friend jump on the shovels to get them in the ground. We find a sleeping caterpillar and a fuzzy caterpillar and a bear caterpillar as well. I
Surprise your opponent by doing exactly the opposite of what’s expected. If someone expects you to be hurt, be honored. If they expect you to be angry and upset, surprise them with your calmness. Train yourself this way and you almost always have the advantage.
It takes a certain mindset to be offended by someones words or actions. Choose not to take offense, as once taken, your opponent already has the advantage. Instead of being offended, be “fascinated.” You cannot control others actions, but you can control how you choose to respond to those actions.

When someone pushes you, physically or emotionally, don’t push back. You lose nothing —and often gain a better position. Two wrongs don’t make a right —so resist less and think more.
Dear Master Strongheart, My community service went well and I liked this job of sorting clothing with my sister and my mom and I am doing it at Mercer Island Thrift Shop right near the train park. It made me feel like I was spending my time wisely and I feel good about what I did to help the community.

Dear Master Strongheart,
(Cameron) did community service this Saturday (11-6-11) and I did sorting clothing and put price tags on them. I did three hours of this and I will do three more classes on Saturdays.
1: My first hero is President Obama. He is my hero because he is the first African-American president. Also, to become president, he had to have a good attitude, hope, and many other things that helped him become president such as brains, confidence, and good leadership. That shows me that anything can be possible if you just work hard and believe.
2: My second hero is my mom because she helps me where I need help and always has fun with me. Also, she teaches me character, manners and the im
WE did it! what a great team effort, a whole lot of fun, for a good cause. We gathered over 750 pounds of food for the food drive this year. And we still have donations coming in! Click this link for more pictures.
Once I become a black belt I want to go for higher rankings. I want to
watch my friends that are a lower belt than me recieve their black belt as
well. And I want to stay in the dojang for as long as I can. I want to be a
black belt that is looked up to and admired. I want to also help other kids
fulfill their dreams of becoming a black belt and let them feel the same
feeling that seems to swell up in your chest whenever you get a new belt. I
want to see these kids become a black belt and once I l
I thought that sorting clothes and filling up bags with clothes was
going to be super boring. But instead I had a great time! What made me sad
though was the fact that there were so many kids in this world with barely
any clothes. But then I thought of how happy they were going to be recieving
the clothes. All in all doing this made me proud!
My first hero is my gu-zheng teacher Shirley. She is great with the gu-zheng and I admire her for that.
My second hero is my private gymnastics teacher Celia who is super flexible and nice and fun!
My third hero is Dr.Bailey who was my flute teacher in fifth grade who was absolutely great with the flute.
My fourth hero is Mrs.Larkin who is my 3/4 block teacher who really likes cultures and it is fun to tell her about China.
My fifth hero is My Mom who always listens to me an
As I get ready for the day, I like to listen to, or read something that sets a great tone for my day. Sometimes, I just need to watch Jon Stewart on Hulu, because what beats laughing first thing in the day. Today though I found this Ted video. It was worth the minutes. I hope you think so too.
1 One hero is Master Strongheart because she has taught me from defense to sparing. She gives me nice encouragement, trust, and respect since the first day of martial arts. Also she is very enthusiastic. Thank you Master Strongheart for everything that you taught me through out my life.
2 My next hero is my mom because my mom is very nice, thoughtful, and respectful to everyone. Even if she is tired when she gets home from work she still has energy to take me to martial arts with no complaint

I watched this video upon the recommendation of an amazing friend, and teacher. Had to share it here. We have done, and will continue to do gratitude raising projects, and do so for many reasons.
One being the mounting evidenced based research on the roots, and traits of those who are psychologically more resilient. And this video brings so clearly to another reason: the personal pleasure, and happiness, a more highly cultivated sense of gratitude brings to one's life.
Enjoy-- a thousand ho
