What kind of black belt will I be?

After much thought and effort, I have molded myself (physically and mentally) into the leader I would follow. Years of Martial Arts and grade school have built me into a very respectful, energetic student and Martial Artist (qualities I believe you require when teacher those younger than yourself). Thus, that is the type of person you will be making a black belt. A respectful, grateful, and energetic one. Though, above all, I will be the person who makes parents say, "Wow! He's incredible! What

What are my goals after I get a black belt?

Upon reaching the level of black belt, I aspire to be an outstanding role model or the younger Martial Artists. I will also be as helpful as I am experienced. However, my ultimate goal is to be such a high quality leader that those who collaborate with me will feel inspired and confident in not only themselves, but also me.

nine_doctrines.gifMy life as a black belt will vary depending on my further goals and the type of black belt I want to be.

What are my goals upon having reached my black belt for my future training and learning?

I will go for instructor. This will require my own nunchuck/sword form (one of each), but I may need to improve my sword skills. I will need to learn new Chung kals and the back belt form. Then, I might go for master. While I am a black belt, I might teach classes, but not be too strict. I might also go

My Five Living Heroes

Phillips_Richard_Captain.jpg1. Richard Phillips- Richard Phillips served as the captain of the container ship Maersk Alabama. During a relief mission en route to Mombasa, Kenya, the ship was hijacked by Somali pirates. Although, the pirates were very hostile and short tempered, Phillips remained remarkably calm, and was careful not to antagonize them. You can see this event in the film, Captain Phillips.

2. Luke Kenworthy- Luke Kenworthy is currently a junior at Mercer Island High School. During last summer, I had recently

Gratitude Challenge

I have so many people in my life to be thankful for and I really should make a point to thank those that are so wonderful to me.  It is so difficult to choose one, but this individual popped into my mind because they are kind, loyal and someone who is definitely inspiring to me.  This person has helped me when I didn't know that I needed help.  She is not only a friend but also someone I admire.  I think I could, well actually I know that I could go on for days about how great you are, so with t

Every year we ask you to think about what it is that you are thankful for.  We will be doing this at our Veteran's Day Camp on November 11, but you don't have to be at the camp to participate and we encourage adults to participate as well:

Mercer Island Martial Arts utilizes the latest research in areas such as positive psychology and exercise physiology to create a martial

A breif overview of Tae Kwon Do Sparring Rules

200px-TaekwondoPictogram2012.jpgWe have recently had some questions about the sparring rules so I thought that I would quickly go over them.

Here’s the basic rules:

You can kick with any part of your foot below your ankle
Only punching with a clenched fist and kicking are allowed in sparring.  No other techniques are allowed.  That means no sweeps, no mixed martial arts etc.
You can kick to two places.  Your opponent’s chest protector (hogu) or head
You can punch your opponent's chest protector only.  No punches allowed to

Black Belt Hopes and Dreams

1. What are my goals upon having reached black belt for my future training and learning?

Well, as a black belt I will probably start focusing more on training the lower belts. However, I still hope to improve in technique and endurance, and learn the new forms and self defenses. If I pass, then I can also help the many deputy black belts reach their goals. In general, I will try and keep learning and helping others learn regardless of belt.

2. What kind of black belt will I be?

I would like to be a

My Five Living Heroes

1. Parents! They have put up with me for so many years, and made sure I could work toward goals. Having them guide me toward productive uses of time has given me many skills that may prove to be useful. I can always rely on them to be honest and tell me how to improve.
2. My paternal grandparents were also a major influence on me growing up. Their sense of humor and fun can always make me smile; enjoying yourself is just another part of staying healthy.
3. Hannah Mills, my friend! Hannah is anothe
